Once upon a time there was a desert – a young desert compared with other deserts, but very old compared with everything else. The older deserts tried to tell the desert he should lend them his sand. If you do not share, they said to the desert, no desert will give you sand in kind, and soon you will dwindle.
But the young desert thought they were tricking him, stealing his sand. He did not let the wind take his sand to their dunes, and no desert gave him sand in kind, and he never grew to become an old desert.
